À Lupa

In May, we will revive the “À Lupa” visits. As the name suggests, these are visits designed to look closely, to magnify themes and concepts that often go unnoticed in passing. What does the exhibition at the Casa da Memória reveal beneath its museographic layers? During this four-month period, the “archaeology” of these special visits will explore the role of women in the history of Guimarães, as well as the collective histories of oppression and resilience of thousands of women who worked in the region’s industries.

Film
Vozes por entre os fios
A film by Raquel Azevedo

Casa da Memória de Guimarães has partnered with a project by filmmaker Raquel Azevedo that will result in a documentary about women workers from parishes in Guimarães. This documentary follows an earlier one filmed in Santo Tirso; its screening will serve as the starting point for a meeting between the women who gave testimonies for the first film and those who will contribute to the second, focused on the Guimarães area.

The screening will be preceded by an “À Lupa” visit to the Casa da Memória de Guimarães, as well as a light dinner before the viewing of the film “Vozes por entre os fios”. This documentary portrays the search for identity of what it means to be a woman in the Ave Valley, weaving together stories and memories of the past with what has become the present for these women, who were and remain symbols of revolution and history.
