Pergunta ao Tempo
“Pergunta ao Tempo” is an annual project of research and artistic creation developed by the Education and Cultural Mediation department, which promotes dialogue between heritage, community, and educational practices.
Since its creation, it has brought together schools, social institutions, and artistic teams in collaborative processes that explore different dimensions of memory and local identity. Recognized in 2021 with the “Complementary School Activity” award by the Portuguese Association of Museology, the project has established itself as a reference in cultural mediation within the municipality, distinguished by its continuity, experimentation, and the construction of shared knowledge.
In 2025/2026, it marks its 10th and final edition, closing a cycle of work that has involved thousands of participants over a decade. This year’s edition, titled “Memory of Work,” focuses on the intergenerational relationship between children and older adults, taking work—in its historical, social, and symbolic dimensions—as the starting point for an artistic creation process.
Conceived and led by Amanda Midori and Ludgero Almeida, the project is based on the premise that memory is also an active exercise of evocation and reconstruction. The narratives and objects of remembrance from older participants thus play a mediating role in shaping new interpretations created by the children.
The project unfolds across five stages, taking place between the Casa da Memória de Guimarães, schools, and participating senior institutions. Activities include collaborative creation exercises, listening and dialogue sessions, audiovisual documentation, and visual productions using different techniques. The process culminates in the exhibition “Memory of Work,” presented in June 2026, bringing together videos, photographs, installations, and other works resulting from the project.
This final edition reinforces the project’s commitment to fostering dialogue between generations and to the shared construction of a collective memory in constant transformation.
