Apanhar um peixe com as mãos
Writing a book is a way of casting memory into the future. How do we look back on life and rewrite it into stories, poems, and works of fiction that nourish the imagination of millions of readers? Memory is as difficult to grasp as a fish caught with bare hands—but how do we hold onto it, refine it, and reshape it through multiple perspectives?
Through literature, words play a vital role in creating worlds that often, as Oscar Wilde suggested, place life in perspective: does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?
On the last Friday of every month*, at the Casa da Memória de Guimarães, we will be joined by a guest for an informal conversation about memory, literature, and many other subjects. Each session will also include an open reading, and everyone is invited to take part. Bring along a poem, an excerpt, a flash fiction piece, or simply a few words you would like to share, and join us for a glass of wine and literary conversations—and much more.
Each edition is presented in partnership with Evineo Wine Boutique, which will curate the wines served. Their selection will add a new dimension of discovery and shared experience to every session.
José Manuel Barroso was born in Vila das Lajes do Pico in 1943, José Manuel Barroso spent his entire career as a journalist, writing on a wide range of subjects. He is particularly renowned for his work on politics and history, receiving numerous awards, including the Grand Journalism Prize from the Portuguese Press Club for his investigative work on the Carnation Revolution, later published as Segredos de Abril (Secrets of April).
One of the Captains of April, he was awarded the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Liberty. Throughout his career, he directed newspapers and news agencies and maintained a strong presence across the press, radio, and television. Since 2021, he has devoted himself to writing and has published three books. In 2024, he received the +65 Short Story Prize. Lautrec is his first book published by The Poets and Dragons Society.
Rui Sobral was born in Santo Tirso, Rui Sobral is a writer, poet, and illustrator.
In addition to debaixo da pele ainda ferve (beneath the skin it still burns, Labirinto, 2026)—the result of the Literary Residency held as part of Thermos – Literary Gathering—and vinte e dois poemas de guerra para Clementina (twenty-two war poems for Clementina) and noturnos (Nocturnes) (Poética, 2025), both finalists for the Glória de Sant'Anna Literary Prize 2026, he is also the author of A nu (Naked, poetry, 2014). His work has appeared in numerous anthologies and collective publications in Portugal and abroad.
He holds a degree in Applied Languages, a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Minho, and is currently pursuing a PhD in History. Rui Sobral is also the founder of Poesia a Três and of the poetry and music collective SOMA.

Língua Gestual Portuguesa e a língua através da qual grande parte da comunidade surda em Portugal (cerca de 30.000 pessoas) comunica entre si. A expressão "língua gestual" refere-se à língua materna de uma comunidade de surdos. As línguas gestuais são línguas naturais, que surgem e se desenvolvem naturalmente, como as línguas orais. É produzida pelos movimentos das mãos, do corpo e por expressões faciais.
